Picnic Island

A unique luxury cabin on Tasmania’s Picnic Island, balancing sensitive ecological design with immersive accommodation and panoramic coastal views.

Set on the unique and remote Picnic Island in Coles Bay, this off-grid accommodation retreat was shaped by an extensive reporting and approvals process, including ecological, coastal, wastewater, structural, and wildlife management considerations. Delivered within a 12-month design and build program, the project required careful coordination between the client, architect, builder, and specialist consultants to protect the island’s sensitive environment while achieving an ambitious tourism outcome. Positioned to capture sweeping views of the Hazards Mountain Range, the cabin combines high-performance off-grid systems, durable coastal materials, and carefully considered detailing to create a private and immersive accommodation experience that encourages guests to slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience one of Tasmania’s most remarkable coastal settings.
